After presenting a preliminary version at the ICOE Conference earlier this year, the OCEANIC-project which includes partners such as RISE and CorPower Ocean, has released a biofouling database developed within the project.
The idea behind this initiative is to “provide developers, operators and regulators a quick overview of geographical biofouling distribution facilitating informed decisions.” (Oceanic-project.eu)
Based on five different biofouling groups, the database provides information on the organisms’ occurrence and key biofouling parameters to the MRE sector, aiming to inform developers planning their projects in regard to site selection etc.
The final version of this tool is available by request using the webform on the OCEANIC website.
For additional information about the database, please contact Pedro Vinagre, WavEC.
